All Campus Waters are Connected

Most of the rain that falls on the main University of Florida campus eventually flows into Lake Alice, one of the campus’ largest and most central natural areas. On the outskirts of campus, rainfall that doesn’t soak into the ground finds its way into Hogtown Creek, Tumblin Creek, or Bivens Arm. All three of these areas move surface water into the Florida aquifer below – our community water supply.

Storm Drain System

If you look along the curbs of most streets you will probably find storm sewer inlets, also called storm drains. Did you ever wonder where they go?

Our Water Supply

Potable water for UF’s main campus and the Gainesville community comes from groundwater reservoirs called aquifers.
