Metal Items and Scrap Metal

Any item on UF campus that is 50% or more metal content can be recycled. A wide variety of metal items and scrap metal is accepted at the Facilities Services Recycling Yard (download pdf of recycling yard map):

  • Aluminum
  • Appliances and white goods (50% or more metal)
  • Brass and Copper
  • Furniture (50% or more metal)
  • Iron
  • Lab Equipment (50% or more metal)
  • Motors
  • Pipe (metal)
  • Roofing (metal)
  • Steel
  • Strapping
  • Wire

Large items can be dropped off in the Facilities Services Recycling Yard (download pdf of recycling yard map) on the flat, paved area behind the metal recycling bins. We cannot accept cylinders, fuel tanks, transformers, containers with chemical or pesticide residues, radioactive metals or items that are less than 50% metal.

  • Remove and manage liquids in an approved manner before recycling metal containers
  • Remove oil pans from machinery and cut drums in half (or cut large holes into empty tanks, paint cans or pressure tanks)
  • Remove refrigerant (Freon or equivalents) in an approved manner before bringing air conditioners, refrigerators or freezers to the Facilities Services Recycling Yard
  • Remove glass or plastic shelving and bins as these cannot be recycled
  • Remove any non-metallic components and put these in the “C&D” roll-off container
